We’re growing quickly, and now hiring a Founding Engineering Lead who will set the technical foundation of our backend platform and play a central role in scaling Neuroscale’s engineering organization.


The Role

As our Founding Engineering Lead, you will work hand-in-hand with three other founding engineers and the founding team to define Neuroscale’s architecture, technical standards, and engineering culture from the ground up.

You will own major platform components, lead backend architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and directly shape the systems that power AI-driven recruiting for thousands of users. You’ll still write code daily, but you’ll also operate as an early leader who influences product, roadmap, infrastructure, and long-term scalability.

This is a high-leverage, high-impact role for an engineer who wants to grow into an Engineering Lead / Head of Engineering role as the company scales.

You’ll own and lead:

Platform Architecture & Systems Design

You will architect and build backend infrastructure using our core backend stack:

  • Backend: GraphQL, NestJS (TypeScript), PostgreSQL + pgvector, Redis, BullMQ, Kafka, ClickHouse, Kubernetes

  • Agents: OpenAI LLMs + open-source models, P-tuning, guardrails, evaluation, tool calls, and safety tooling

  • AI/ML: Finetuning pipelines, embeddings, vector search, and retrieval systems

  • Lead backend systems design and own key architectural decisions.

  • Build high-scale APIs, event-driven systems, pipelines, and LLM orchestration layers.

  • Design robust infrastructure, observability, CI/CD practices, and reliability standards.

  • Define platform-wide development patterns, best practices, and future-proof architecture.

  • Collaborate tightly with founders and other engineers to ensure velocity without sacrificing technical integrity.

Execution, Product Impact & Leadership

  • Build systems end-to-end: architecture → implementation → testing → rollout.

  • Translate ambiguous problem statements into clear, actionable engineering plans.

  • Drive engineering priorities and help shape the product roadmap.

  • Build AI-powered product features that directly solve real customer workflows.

  • Partner with GTM, Product, and Customer teams to deeply understand and act on customer needs.

  • Raise the bar on code quality, performance, scalability, and operational excellence.

Team-Building & Mentorship

While this role starts as a highly technical IC role, you will:

  • Mentor and level-up the three other founding engineers.

  • Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and system deep dives.

  • Influence hiring, interview loops, and team structure as we scale.

  • Help craft the engineering culture, one that values speed, craftsmanship, and ownership.

  • Become a trusted technical leader across the company.


Who You Are:

  • You have led major projects or systems from scratch, ideally in production.

  • Deep expertise in backend architecture, distributed systems, data modeling, and infrastructure.

  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, API design, and modern web system patterns.

  • You have experience with large-scale data pipelines and search clusters.

  • Experience with (or excitement to learn quickly): OpenAI and open-source LLMs, P-tuning / PEFT, Guardrails / safety tooling, Retrieval / RAG / vector search.

  • Model orchestration and evaluation pipelines

  • Experienced in fast-paced startups where speed and quality are equally critical.

  • You instinctively think about reliability, observability, and scalability early.

  • You combine builder energy with engineering leadership maturity.

  • You learn extremely quickly and consistently deliver high-quality work.

  • You communicate clearly, make strong technical arguments, and enjoy collaborating in person.

  • You care deeply about solving customer pain, not just writing beautiful code.

  • You want to own significant parts of the platform and grow into a long-term technical leadership role.


Nice-to-haves:

  • You were, or want to be, a founder.

  • Experience with large-scale data systems, search clusters, analytics pipelines, or distributed compute.

  • Familiarity with recruiting tools, ATS systems, or HRTech.

  • Interest or experience with the frontend stack (Apollo GraphQL, Next.js, React).

  • Up to $200K base salary, depending on experience
